WebOct 26, 2024 · Abstract. Soft magnetic materials are key to the efficient operation of the next generation of power electronics and electrical machines (motors and generators). Many new materials have been introduced since Michael Faraday’s discovery of magnetic induction, when iron was the only option. WebSoft magnetic materials are characterized by low values of coercivity (H c <10 3 A m –1), while the coercivity of hard magnetic materials (usually permanent magnets) is higher than 10 4 A m –1. Finally, semihard magnetic materials (mostly storage media) have coercivities in between the above two values.
